Chiropractic Neck Adjustments
There is a lot of conflicting information about chiropractic neck adjustments. The truth is, the neck is a delicate area of the body. There are some serious things that can happen from a neck adjustment that is not done properly.

You might have heard that getting a neck adjustment can cause a stroke. This is true, but the chances of this happening are extremely small and remote. In fact recent studies have shown that only one out of 5.85 million neck adjustments resulted in a stroke.

Neck adjustments are also referred to as cervical manipulations. This is because the vertebrae in the neck are the cervical vertebrae. These bone are much closer together than other bones in the spinal column which makes them more difficult to manipulate and much easier to injure. The chiropractic neck adjustments done for patients with neck pain are varied. The doctor will determine what adjustments are needed depending on what you are experiencing and what is out of alignment. There is no 'one adjustment fits all' scenario when it comes to neck adjustment.

The standard medical treatment for neck injury or pain is to prescribe drugs, often NSAIDS. There are many harmful side effects to taking these drugs. In fact the dangers of the side effects of NSAIDS far outweigh the potential risks for cervical manipulation or chiropractic neck adjustments.

Another important factor in chiropractic neck adjustments is the fact that the pain might not be coming from your neck. Although you might be experiencing neck pain, this could be resulting from an issue much lower in your body. This is why it is so important to work with a highly skilled and trained chiropractor to make sure that you are getting the treatment you most need and will benefit from.

Your chiropractor might also use trigger point therapy to help with neck issues and pain. Trigger point therapy is a method that uses pressure right where the muscles are tight. By putting pressure on the tight muscle you can often get it to release. Once the muscle releases it is easier to see what is really going on with the area. At that point you might get a cervical manipulation or your chiropractor might recommend that you see a massage therapist. Most chiropractors work closely with massage therapists to help not only the nerves function properly, but the whole body work in accord.

No matter what therapy your chiropractor chooses to use for your chiropractic neck adjustment trust that they are making the right decision. Choosing to work with your body to get strong and healthy is a much better option than dosing your symptoms with unnecessary drugs.
